the Hockings at Canberra

Photos from 2009

Today was Australia Day for 2009. We observed a quiet Australia Day, but in the evening we took a picnic tea & ate it in a park on the edge of Lake Burley Griffin just near Lennox Park. After we ate tea, we went for a bit of a drive & ended up on top of Mount Ainslie. There were a couple of bushfires around the ACT, one near Goulbourn & the other near Batemans Bay, so the photos we took are hazy from the smoke in the air. The photos are here.

Today, we went & had tea down by Lake Burley Griffin. The photos are here.

Betty, Renee & I flew out to Cairns on Easter Friday to spend a week with our older daughter before taking another week to drive from Cairns down to Brisbane to fly back to Canberra. We had  a great time & were pleasantly surprised when our hotel room at Cairns was upgraded to a better room free of charge & then when the rental Falcon we'd booked was upgraded to an Audi A6, once again at no cost to us. The pictures are here.

23rd of August. Betty & I went for a walk down both sides of Anzac Avenue in Canberra today to have a look at all the memorial for the different wars Australian servicemen & service women have fought in. You can see the photos here.

Renee went on a 11 day school excursion to Central Australia starting on the 21st of September. She took lots of pictures & they are here.

This year we celebrated Christmas in Canberra with the Hocking side of the family. Everyone was there except for my niece, hopefully next time she can make it. The pictures are here.

Enjoy!

To get the best from the photos ...

Please make sure that  your screen is calibrated so that you can see all the shades in the image below;

Screen calibration image

You must be able to see all this:
-- 20 sections of equal width and different tone
-- the darkest section must be pure black
-- the lightest section must be pure white
-- there must be no hint of color anywhere along the grey spectrum
If you don't see 20 different tones, you may need to lower the contrast.
If black is not pure black, you need to either darken the monitor or adjust the black point.
If white is not pure white, you need to either lighten the monitor or adjust the white point.
If both black and white are not pure, try to boost the overall contrast or adjust both, the black and white points. If there is a color cast, try and adjust the color balance. Some software allows you to do this separately for both ends of the grey spectrum
